In approximately 2002 my profoundly ill family realized treating our Lyme disease and Babesia was not enough, and our mood, patience, behavior and character were becoming “OFF.” Frankly, if was scary to see all of us change for unclear reasons. So I started using my 40+ hours of weekly research to focus on Bartonella discovered by pioneering labs since large commercial labs has missed all our infections-including ones clearly seen in blood smears. (Of course large commercial labs have been immensely helpful in the 50–100 labs unrelated to Bartonella and the co-infections Lyme and Babesia. Yes, Bartonella has 12+ biting insect sources, not merely one. And Bartonella is roughly inside 20% of the human population. Many more people than Lyme. That is following the newest science, not being frozen in the past. It is not resting on past training.
In 1990 we knew of two Bartonella species. We have posted 23 human species and that is a first for sharing this definitive Bartonella book. Almost every source discussing species reports an outdated number.
We think killing some Bartonella, a master hiding infection, increases positive results. Discussed elsewhere like FaceBook. (But not recently perhaps because a doctor reading a few articles on these infections felt I was teaching incorrect information. Reported me? 🙂 I hope they acted with a caring motive even if they were quite out of their depth.
Large commercial labs typically only test for two 1990 and 1991 discovered species–henselae and quintana). That is two out of 23 species in humans.
Galaxy Labs has the best growth media and DNA testing in the world.
IgeneX has an exceptional genus test that will detect all bartonella in the human body and it is quite an advanced technology.
DNA Connections is a urine test that has, at times, been the only convenient DNA/PCR test that detects these infections.
Vibrant is low cost and superior to all large familiar popular commercial labs.
TLabs offers a microscope imaging test that appears to resemble our published Bartonella images, though sometimes after people have had high dose long duration four+ Bartonella killing treatments, TLabs shows apparent positive dots of Bartonella. I am still thinking about this.
We have published on herbal treatments of Bartonella in a 11/2023 book found with my name. It is user-friendly, and only lists treatments with research. I do not merely follow any Herb Popes. And I know people have little time to read. I will not insert this respectable herb book here. i have been very surprised that thousands of dollars of top naturopath (ND) textbooks have nothing on Bartonella, Babesia and Lyme. But almost all MD textbooks on advanced medicine are also of no use. Maybe we all must hunt for information outside our many years of education. My Bartonella text discusses about fifty herbs.
We prefer standardized herbal active potent forms such as trans-resveratrol over Japanese Knotweed. Partly based on my past herbal exposure and work (A Herb Debate. JAMA. I forgot the year. Perhaps 1998. And work on the board of two top nutrition companies).
Common synthetic medicine antibiotics are often proposed based mainly on tests of treatments against lab test tube Bartonella. It is better than nothing. The take for me is that cure is increased not merely by high dosing, but by using different treatments. Samples would be clarithromycin, azithromycin, rifampin, rifabutin, methylene blue, risky ciprofloxacin or levaquin, and gentamicin which has risks of kidney damage and hearing/balance damage risks. Septa/Bactrim is also proposed from reasonable sources, and while it is good at killing frozen/hibernating Lyme bacteria, I am still exploring how much it helps. Macrobid (nitrofurantoin) which is routinely used for UTIs also has test tube support for using. I go to 300 mg a day vs. the routine 200 mg a day. I have not decided if this adds benefit.
Many other treatments exist such as Peptides, EBOO, Argentyn 23, and possibly high dose dapsone. In terms of dapsone, we have used higher and longer dosing than any research I can find, and my struggle is I was relying on a test to determine Bartonella cure that I am reconsidering. The lab showed both Babesia and Bartonella presence after very high peerless dosing for long periods. But I am pondering if this lab is correct. For now I use dapsone and if it adds to broad Lyme’s killing–jolly good!
There are ways to defeat Bartonella’s biofilm discussed in my 2014 BIOFILM textbook which is still the leading careful and cost effective text. And our pending textbook on Bartonella offers proof we were able to successfully destroy Bartonella’s biofilm. And it was not from using weak spice oils listed in BIOFILMS. If it does not annoy the filmy mucosa of your mouth, I will not bother the filmy biofilm coating Bartonella. This is not a science analogy but only a teaching comment.
Symptoms can be from any tissue in contact with 60,000 miles of body tubing. Some suggest it can cause psychiatric troubles, and we agree (See Schaller. Medscape General Medicine. 2007 which was the first psychiatric article on Bartonella and is a huge easy to read paper)
Skin or organ streaked stretch mark-like rashes and swollen lymph nodes are very rare. They should never be seen as normative.
More to come….
