What is Mold?

Molds or mildew are fungi. Fungi are neither plant nor animal but have their own kingdom with 100,000 species.

Which Molds are Toxic?

Toxic molds are found indoors where there is humidity, different types of food and no predators. Only a very small number of molds are toxic. However, the ones that are toxic only need a few days in a wet room or flooded wallboard to take hold. Then they create spores to multiply-types of seeds. But most important is that these spores are like powdered donuts. They have biotoxins on them.

Once they are in a room or a house with air flowing they can be very hard to remove, even if the spores are killed with ozone or ultraviolet light.

Does a Remediation Cause a "Cleaned" Home, Business or School to be Safe?

One of the errors of remediation workers is a lack of appreciation of the explosion of data on the effects of biotoxic mold on humans. It is nice to have various devices to tell someone the mold is gone but the issues is:

  1. Is the biotoxin chemical on the spores fully gone?
  2. Do people now feel healthy while in the treated facility? If the answer is that folks still get ill in the building and feel better while away on vacations it means the toxins were not removed. People are the measure of remediation, not mold removal tools.

When people enter buildings that have not been fully remediated, they have many lab changes that are easy to measure. Dr. R. Shoemaker has a number of studies in Press or presented which show these lab changes matching re-exposure to sick buildings.
