Title: Safe Use of Ondansetron (Zofran) with MAO Inhibitors Ondanstron is a marvelous medication that seems safe in children and the elderly and can be quite effective at preventing nausea and vomiting. It merely blocks one special serotonin receptor associated with vomiting. If you are getting general anesthesia, chemo treatments for cancer, or are having a surgery in which you will swallow some blood, e.g., nose surgery. Consider asking for it before the surgery. If you are nauseous at 2 a.m. it is harder to get medication the day after surgery. MAO inhibitors are sensitive to other medications. We believe nausea can be treated with this medication in those taking MAO inhibitors. |
