As we write in our revised and expanded book on herbs and essential oils,
and our Destroy Depression book, the recommended “starting dose is wrong for some.
1. Mast cell activation syndrome
2. You often get itching, skin redness, and other signs of excess reactivity.
3. If you eat the “wrong thing” and experience bloating, belly pain, or loose stool,
4. You are allergic (not just based on blood or skin testing) to three foods based on your eating experience. Four foods is more possible reactivity.
5. You are allergic to three unrelated medications. If you itch on a narcotic that is routine 1980s knowledge and not an allergy. Four unrelated drug allergies should prompt a doctor to start very low and usually ignore a one-size-fits-all, brain-dead approach.
Examples
* In emergencies and in the ICU there is no time to dally on optimal doing. You usually need what research has typically found to be effective.
* You react to many medicines so your sertraline (Zoloft) should be 3-7 mg compounded. Or crush a 25 mg tablet in a mortar and pestle and take a pinch. You can take another dose in 12 hours. The range of my effective dose for patients with treatment failure is 2 mg to 800 mg, monitored via body fluid level checks.
* You are taking minocycline for “Lyme.” What a 1980’s expression. Fifty milligrams of minocycline makes you very miserable. When we redo a famous Lyme-literate MD’s testing, after doing prekilling before testing, the germs explode, no longer have stealth and the hundreds of pieces from each one create antibodies. Now, we find three corkscrew *Borrelia* species: European Lyme disease, Tick-borne relapsing fever, and Anaplasma. All are killed by minocycline! So he can only start with 10mg a day. Some would think that is silly. And their uncreative mill approach keeps me busy.
* You try 150 mg of rifampin. Most feel nothing. But Lisa feels bad after eight hours. Yet she does well on 20mg compounded and later approximately one-quarter of a 150 mg capsule. With a sharp knife she leans the blade toward the 1/4 she will take, keeping 85% or more in the 1/4 she will swallow.
I have been doing radical tailoring for 34 years. There is no dose. The correct amount is your effective comfortable amount.
