The Trauma Treatment That Is Shared Widely
Tonight I noticed the 100th treatment mentioned as having severe side effects. I swear I count. It was methylene blue.
I think I have read at least 95% of the information on this medicine over the last five years. Since it is an ancient modern medicine, the adverse event list borders on infinity. You have a patient experiencing green ears and it was started a week ago. So you report it as an “adverse event.” And after merely 20 years, that list is huge.
Could methylene blue be the cause of green ears? Doubtful. But I have reported highly unusual effects, with the idea that any possible agent should be reported. And 1/100 may feel uncomfortable. This is possible if an infection is in every millimeter of your body, causing receptors to alter, or if the infection’s massive inflammation alters pathways in the brain, liver, or other organs.
Rarely do I see someone consider if the drug blew up a million germs and created 50 million particles.
And if they consider it, they often dismiss it as a mere “starting dose.” Who decided semaglutide GLP-1 was to be used at 2.4 mg? This causes too many people to be horribly nauseous or vomit, even at 1/4th that dose.
