Sample Biotoxins — More Than Mold

A biotoxin is simply a toxic substance produced by a living organism. While many acute biotoxins exist in nature (like snake venom or spider venom), when clinical specialists discuss “biotoxins” in the context of chronic fatigue, Lyme disease, and immune dysregulation, they are usually referring to microscopic, lipid-soluble (fat-soluble) toxins.

Because these specific biotoxins are fat-soluble, they can easily cross the blood-brain barrier, settle into the nervous system and tissues, and continuously trigger the body’s inflammatory alarms (like the C4a marker mentioned earlier).

Here are a mere sample of biotoxins implicated in chronic, systemic illness:

1. Mold Mycotoxins

I have over 30 researched effects on the top three mycotoxins on this site.

These are toxic gases and residues produced by toxic molds, almost always found in water-damaged buildings. They are inhaled and absorbed directly into the bloodstream.

  • Trichothecenes: Produced by Stachybotrys (black mold). Highly neurotoxic and immunosuppressive.
  • Ochratoxin A (OTA): Produced by Aspergillus and Penicillium. It is notorious for causing kidney damage and severe neuro-inflammation.
  • Gliotoxin: Produced by Aspergillus. It directly suppresses the immune system, making it harder for the body to fight off other infections (like Lyme or Epstein-Barr).
  • Aflatoxin: Highly toxic to the liver, produced by specific strains of Aspergillus.

2. Pathogen-Derived Toxins (Tick-Borne)

Bacteria and parasites don’t just cause damage by eating tissue; they secrete toxins while they are alive, and heavily shed them when they are killed by antibiotics (causing the massive symptom flare-up known as a Herxheimer reaction).

  • Lipopolysaccharides (LPS): Also known as “endotoxins,” these are found in the outer cell walls of Gram-negative bacteria (like Bartonella). When the bacteria multiply or die, LPS is released into the blood, triggering massive, systemic inflammation and brain fog.
  • Borrelia Neurotoxins: Borrelia (Lyme disease) produces specific proteins and neurotoxins that irritate the central nervous system, leading to the joint pain, nerve pain, and cognitive issues typical of the disease. Donta patented a biotoxin and then found a Lyme biotoxin in recent years.
  • Babesia Waste: As Babesia parasites destroy red blood cells, they dump toxic cellular debris and parasitic waste directly into the bloodstream, putting a heavy burden on the liver and spleen.

3. Bacterial Endotoxins & Actinomycetes

Mold is rarely the only problem in a water-damaged building. Damp environments also breed specific types of bacteria.

  • Actinomycetes: These are bacteria that grow in the walls and dust of damp buildings. Recent research into environmentally acquired illness shows that the biotoxins produced by Actinomycetes are often just as responsible for severe chronic illness as mold mycotoxins.
  • Endotoxins: Fragments of bacterial cell walls found in indoor dust that trigger aggressive respiratory and immune responses.

4. Marine And Water-Borne Biotoxins

These are ingested or inhaled near contaminated bodies of water.

  • Microcystins: Highly toxic biotoxins produced by Cyanobacteria (often referred to as blue-green algae blooms) in warm, nutrient-rich lakes and ponds. They are severely toxic to the liver and nervous system.
  • Ciguatoxin / Pfiesteria: Produced by microscopic dinoflagellates in the ocean. Humans are exposed by eating contaminated reef fish or breathing aerosolized red tide toxins. They cause severe neurological symptoms, including temperature reversal (hot feels cold, cold feels hot) and neurological fatigue.
