Venlafaxine, a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI), has been studied as an alternative to SSRIs for OCD. In an open, naturalistic study of 39 patients, including 29 who were resistant to prior SRI treatment, 69.2% of patients were rated as sustained responders, and among treatment-resistant patients, 75.9% showed improvement (mean dose 232 mg/day) using the Clinical Global Impressions-Improvement scale.
