Severe Lyme Disease:
Leads to Other Serious Illnesses?
If your Lyme is missed due to simplistic diagnostic criteria you may be in for another challenge: autoimmune illness, arthritis and heart disease.
As we have posted in our Lyme endotoxins article, surface proteins in Lyme can cause major immune trouble. In one recent study, Raveche and Schutzer, both immunologists, found that the Osp-A protein on the outside of Lyme was similar to Streptococcus pyogenes M protein. So what is the fuss?
Streptococcus pyogenes M causes rheumatic heart disease and
arthritis. So as your bodyÕs immune system attacks the Lyme Osp-A, it may end up attacking your own tissues--in the joints and heart. Others feel this problem is not limited to these two areas of vulnerability, and other tissues can be attacked accidentally.
