SCHALLER, MD ARTICLES ON HUMAN LYME FOR VETERINARIANS
I have been told by some veterinarians that Lyme in pets like dogs is not too hard to treat, and that the screening tests are better than human testing. My appeal to all veterinary physicians is that a positive pet Lyme test or clear clinical signs such as a Lyme-like eccentric limp, is a sign that all the owners should be tested.
In our experience, these loved pets can have poppy-seed sized deer ticks or occasionally dog ticks with Lyme and commonly pass it to the owner. The rashes or marks on children or adults can be one of eleven common skin marks and appear trivial. Lyme in humans is very serious and can manifest in over 300 ways. It reaches the heart, eyes and brain in a couple weeks. Lyme may have killed my best friend growing up with an aneurysm. It appears it took approximately 15 years to take his life.
SINCE LYME IS VERY SERIOUS IN HUMANS.
PROVIDE BASIC HUMAN LYME MATERIALS TO OWNERS OF PETS TESTING POSITIVE AND RAISE THE IDEA OF TESTING WITH A "QUALITY" LAB
BLINDED TESTING OF OVER 40 LABS SHOWS MOST HUMAN TESTING IS POOR. TESTING AND ALL RELATED ISSUES DISCUSSED BELOW.
